Only real issue is the water quality and ability to swim in the lake here.
Very nice beach, we went mid afternoon on an overcast kinda dreary day & it was warm but nice because not a lot of people maybe 10 including the 5 of us. It's beautiful, I love nature & the sound of the waves, looking for sea glass, playing in the sand with the kids & putting our feet in the water. The bathrooms were typical beach/park restrooms. Lots of places to park. Very Rocky by water maybe wear water shoes or crocks with the strap. Take an extra bag for trash.
As far as Ohio beaches go, it's the best one I've been to. It's very open, and clean with ample parking and plenty of picnic benches/ grills. There's also several play grounds. However, here's why it lost a star on my review: Dogs are allowed but not on the beach, only in the park. Have an awesome boogie board? Don't bother bringing it. Don't bother bringing any kind of flotation device that you associate with the beach because moments within trying to play with it, the anal-retentive lifeguards will drive up on their dune buggies and tell you to immediately put it away. There's nothing about this rule on the website either. Also, while the beach is harked as a sand beach, it's actually more fine sedimentary rock. The farther from the shore your are the finer the sediment gets, but the actual coast of the beach is nothing but large to small pebbles and they hurt like H*LL to walk on. BRING WATER SHOES. It doesn't get better unless you're floating. If you're a stone collector, then this is a dream site.
The park does close at sunset which really stinks, since this beach has some great viewing to watch the sun go down. Would be nice if you could enjoy it and not be pestered by the park rangers to leave a half hour before sunset.
Our family love's Headlands Beach! Do make sure you check the Erie water contamination posts many time's the water was under advisory. Other than that a great place to visit
Great beach, if you want to get out of your car and walk in the sand. Have many places to grill and have a picnic without a long walk. Along with several restrooms and benches to sit and relax.
Summer hang out. You def dont think your at a lake, its like an ocean. Boat race in late summer and as always topless is appropriate. That's by law!
